Player Bio

Wafadar Momand is a right-arm medium-pace bowler who plays for the Afghanistan cricket team. Momand made his List-A debut in the 2017 Ghazi Amanullah Regional One-Day Tournament. He was a part of the Afghanistan squad for the 2018 U-19 World Cup.

The Laghman-born was named in the squad for Afghanistan’s inaugural Test match against India in 2018. During the match, Momand, alongside Rashid Khan became the first pair of teenagers to concede 100 runs each in their nation’s inaugural Test match.

In the same year, the pacer was included in the ODI squad to play against Ireland, but he did not play in any of the matches. Momand was then drafted into the Afghanistan squad for the 2018 Asia Cup tournament, but he got injured during a training session and pulled out of the tournament at the last moment.

Momand got another chance to impress the selectors in the one-off Test match against Ireland in 2019. However, he went wicketless in the Test match and had an unimpressive outing, to say the least.

In November 2019, he was named in the Afghan squad for the 2019 Emerging Teams Asia Cup Tournament held in Bangladesh.

A promising fast bowler, Momand has failed to grab the opportunities given to him. Injuries and poor form have hampered his international career so far. He needs to work on his fitness in order to stay fit and try and regain his place in the Afghanistan national setup once again.
