So thats all from the commentary box folks. All of us had a tiring day but we hope you guys were glued to our coverage and enjoyed every bit of it. Till the next time, its adieus from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my fellow commentators Kingshuk Kusari and Abhishek Singh.
Dinesh Karthik, Tamil Nadu skipper: It really hurt us last year, we lost by a whisker. This year we had our sights on the knockouts and then we got consistent. It's the sign of a good team. I think just the fact that there are players like Natarajan and Sundar in the Indian team, who were in this team last year, is the sign of a team doing well. I'm sure there are a few who'll go on from this team as well. I think over a period of time you understand a lot of things, the reason you play the sport; these last 4-5 years have been great for me. Playing for the country has made me urge to do well for the state team as well. This is the biggest stadium, when you have an IPL game here it's going to be fantastic. Throughout the tournament it's been competitive, can't wait to play an IPL match here. I think our support staff has done a great job. The assistant coach Prasanna, he and I do all the strategy work. We have a very good working relationship. Over a period of time we've understood how to take this team forward. I would like to thank the Gujarat Association, Jay Shah, Arun Dhumal for looking after us well.
M Siddharth, Man of the Match: I just wanted to keep it simple for the team and it paid off. I'm glad it paid off. I've been working hard on my variations. My arm ball always gives me wickets and I just go with it.
Kedar Devdhar, Baroda skipper: I want to congratulate the TN team and also my team. Without our big players we reached here. Win and loss is part of the game, we should be proud of this effort. The support staff and strength and conditioning guys, the assistant coach, the players, have all put in big efforts in the tournament. Once in a while you have days like this, it's alright. We'll take the positives.
Arya: Earlier in the day it was Dinesh Karthik who won the toss and opted to field. The ploy to go in with M Siddharth in this particular encounter paid off as he was the pick of the bowlers with a four-wicket haul. Karthik started off with the spinners and kept on persisting with them and they didn't disappoint him. The Baroda top order was literally blown away as Aparajith and Siddharth spun a web around them and varied the length to perfection which never really allowed the Baroda batsmen to go after the bowlers. Vishnu Solanki was the last recognized man when they were reduced to 36/6. He looked in complete command of proceedings and looked like he was batting in a different strip. It was a good partnership between Solanki and Sheth which allowed them to get some respectability. In the end, Bhargav Bhatt struck a quickfire 12 of 5 deliveries which propelled them to a score of 120. In the end the score wasn't enough as TN ended up winning at a canter by 7 wickets
Arya: Chasing the target of 121, openers from Tamil Nadu Jagadeesan and Hari Nishanth got off to a solid start sharing a 26 runs stand before the wicket of Jagadeesan to Meriwala. It was a good effort from the bowlers upfront but the Tamil Nadu batsmen were just too good on the day. Hari Nishanth fell at the score of 67 but by then the target looked within touching distance. A few more wickets towards the fag end did make things interesting but in the end, it was yet again a whirlwind unbeaten knock from Shah Rukh khan which helped them coast to the victory target. Baba Aparajith played through the innings with a knock of 29 of 35 deliveries while Shah Rukh's knock of 18 came in just 7 deliveries. In the end it proved to be a sensational performance from Tamil Nadu as they lift the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Arya: That was a thoroughly professional performance from Tamil Nadu. They deserved the victory especially after restricting Baroda to a below-par score of 120 in their allotted 20 overs and it was always going to be a cakewalk for them. The Baroda bowlers did challenge them occasionally towards the fag end but in the end, it was an easy victory for Tamil Nadu as they coast home by 7 wickets and with 2 overs to spare.
Abhishek: Handshakes all around and Tamil Nadu has done it..second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for them..they had won the inaugural one in 2006-07. Manimaran Siddhanth is the hero for Tamil Nadu here..what a spell he bowled in the first innings to break both Baroda's back and their confidence
