Milestone
It was a convincing victory for India to take a lead in the series. The action will now move on to Napier for the third and final match of the series.

We will bring you the live action from this series on the 22nd of November, until then stay tuned for all the enthralling action in the cricketing universe. This is Probuddha Bhattacharjee signing off along with my co-commentator Arijit Kundu and scorer-analyst Paras Yadav. Goodbye and stay safe!
Hardik Pandya (India Captain): "Absolutely, we cannot expect anything better than this. The way Surya played was brilliant and got us past 170.

We as a unit have thought to be a little aggressive at the intent. It doesn't mean that you need to go after every bowl but it's more about the body language. The boys stuck to the plan and got the result as well.

Yeah, absolutely, I know that I can bowl and what I can do. It's not that it will be a bowler's day everyday. Today was one of the days where Deepak came and stopped them. They were getting some rhythm but I think Deepak came and bowled really well to stop their momentum.

There is no expectation. I just want them to be professional. I mean there is always a lot of pressure when you play for India. They need to be happy when they play, they need to be cheerful. I think I get to see them smile and it is important to be in a healthy mindset.

Today was fantastic, people were backing each other. It is too short a time to give a game to everyone. I might ask a few of the players if they want to rest, and might put in someone else. I don't know actually, we shall see as we get to the next vanue and get to know the conditions."

Kane Williamson (New Zealand Captain): "It was not our best, having said that Suryakumar was out of this world. It was next level and they as a team was outstanding. We could not get the momentum with either the ball or the bat. I will keep pointing out to Suryakumar, that was something special. There was a bit of swing and the Indian bowlers are the best exponent of it so decided to bowl first.

I think if we look at the small margins a couple of overs and the game could go your way. But with the sort of innings, Surya played you don't have much to do."
Suryakumar Yadav (Player of the Match): "I think the plan was very clear when I went to bat. I had to bat till the end to go over the par score of 170-175. I feel, for such kinda format we need to have a good intent. Irrespective of the situation it is important to enjoy the match. You also need to follow your process, your routine. I'll take that as a compliment.

Yeah, obviously it is a great feeling to have a full game. Happy to go one-up in the series. I didn't think too much about what's happening inside. I just tried to stay in the present and enjoy. Wonderful crowd here, and great ton see such a massive support for us."
4:03 PM IST | And that's it for the match. Deepak Hooda picks the wicket of Adam Milne to end the proceedings here. A good job there by the part-timer as he cleans up the tail of New Zealand for India.

Earlier, during the toss, Kane Williamson won it and invited India to bat first.

It was a slowish start by the Indian openers as they scored 36 runs in the first  5.1 overs before Rishabh Pant was dismissed by Lockie Ferguson. This brought Suryakumar Yadav into the crease who was determined to increase the scoring rate of his team. He started to play a counter-attacking brand of cricket and put the bowlers under pressure. Along the way, he was aided by Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, and Hardik Pandya as India reached a monumental total of 191 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs.

At one stage India was well on course to go past the 200 mark, but it was a brilliant last over by Tim Southee which prevented India from doing it. Southee picked up a hattrick in the last over, his second in T20Is. Suryakumar remained unbeaten on 111 off 51 at the end of the 20 overs, it was his second T20I century.

During the chase, New Zealand did not start on a great note. They lost Finn Allen very early and that slowed down their progress. Williamson tried to stabilize the innings and hold together the chase for his team. But the Indian bowlers kept chipping away with wickets. At the halfway stage, the Kiwis were stationed at 71 for 3 and the task ahead looked quite tough.

Williamson completed his 50 but failed to increase the scoring rate for his team at the right moment. Also, the fact that New Zealand kept losing wickets from the other end did not help their cause. At the end of the 20 overs, New Zealand managed to score 126 runs and lost the match by 65 runs.

Williamson was the highest scorer for his team with 61off 52 balls. The pick of the bowlers for India was Deepak Hooda, who picked up 4 wickets for 10 runs from his 2.4  overs.
