Match Details
Chasing a meager total of 185, the debutant Alick Athanaze powered the West Indies to a scintillating start and made certain there were no hiccups in the chase. The southpaw commenced his International career with a boundary and kept on batting in a belligerent fashion inside the powerplay. Johnson Charles 3(10), on the other hand, walked back early as Muhammad Jawad Ullah trapped the right-hander in front with a brilliant nip-backer and bagged his maiden ODI wicket.
Shamarh Brooks joined forces with the debutant and played some single-minded cricket but Athanaze continued his attacking approach and kept piling the runs. Athanaze’s combination was a combination of brute force and flair as he registered the joint-fastest half-century on an ODI debut. Athanaze and Brooks added 66 runs for the second wicket before the former was dismissed on 65(45) attempting a needless reverse sweep.
The right-handed Brooks continued to play the second fiddle and accumulated 39(58) before he holed out in the deep. The UAE spinners caused some troubles in the middle overs as Keacy Carty 20(31) and Kavem Hodge 0(1) returned in quick succession but stand-in skipper Roston Chase 27*(32) and Raymon Reifer 15(30) absorbed the pressure and helped the visitors to register a dominating victory. All three of Aayan Afzal Khan, Karthik Meiyappan, and Muhammad Jawad Ullah picked a couple of wickets each for UAE.
The 55-run stand between Aravind and Rameez Shahzad for the third wicket was broken by Kevin Sinclair as the right-arm spinner caught Shahzad for 27(40) off his own bowling. The Windies spinners bowled in tandems and were successful to stem the flow of runs. The UAE low-order was peppered with some unplayable deliveries as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Vriitya Aravind 70(75) was the lone warrior for the hosts and gave the bowlers something to uphold. Kevin Sinclair was the pick of the bowlers for the Windies and bagged a brilliant four-wicket haul (4/24). Stick around for the post-match presentation!
