Milestone
A turning day for everyone. The pitch turned square, the match turned on its head and the spinners obviously turned the ball. It is India at the end of all breaking the 13-match winning streak of Sri Lanka by 41 runs and qualifying for the grand final of the Asia Cup 2023. We will have a day's break before Pakistan and Sri Lanka play a virtual knockout for a spot in the final to face India.

For now, it is me AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ayan Chatterjee, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer brought you all the live-action of this thrilling encounter. We will meet again. Until then, it's cheers!

Dunith Wellalage is the first to achieve this double in the Asia Cup ODIs
Dunith Wellalage (POTM): "Yeah, first of all I want to congratulate the Indian team. They have a strong line-up and class players.

Unfortunately, we lost the game today. But we still have one more game to play and win to get to the final.

Kuldeep Yadav is a great bowler. I tried to play my normal game and stay positive.

Since the small age, I have worked very hard and stayed positive. I want to thank all of my support staff and teammates for the support."
Player of the Match: Dunith Wellalage
Rohit Sharma (India Captain): "It was a good game for us also to play a game like that. We needed to be under pressure and challenged all aspects of play. We want to play in all pitches like this and challenge ourselves.

Absolutely. He has worked really hard on his fitness and the spell that he bowled was great. He looked like taking a wicket every ball. This was not an easy score to defend and all the bowlers did well. The pitch got better to bat on.

Kuldeep has been great for us. He has worked on his game and the ball is coming nicely out of his hand. So, looking at his last 10-15 games, he has been great. I think going forward he will be a great option for our side. Thank You."
Maximum Sixes Award: Rohit Sharma.
Catch of the Match: Suryakumar Yadav
11:14 PM IST and Local Time: Time for the presentations.
Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka Captain): "See, at the start, we didn't expect this kind of a wicket. We thought it was a batting wicket.

Once the 10 overs are done earlier, young Wellalage, Dhananjaya de Silva and Charith Asalanka bowled brilliantly. I knew they are the options as we saw them in the nets and luckily for us, they replicated the same in the match.

After the last game against Bangladesh, I sensed that Wellalage could do something special. He did that today and also got wickets of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma."
KL Rahul (India): "It was amazing throughout. It was a physical challenge for us. The conditions were not ideal. it tested us a lot and I think I was happy to see the intensity of all of us. Obviously happy to contribute to the team. Wanted to give partnerships for the team. I was out for 4-5 months so will take it whatever it comes.

Me and Ishan had a good partnership and Rohit and Shubman started it. We were 30 runs short I felt. It's been good. Kuldeep has been good and my job from behind the stumps was simple.

Just to keep at it and guide him. We build trust as a team and enjoy playing with each other. We are happy to get the win in the end.

Playing for three days in a row was tough and glad we passed the test."
10:56 PM IST and Local Time: India are through to the final of Asia Cup 2023 on the back of this fighting win! Kuldeep Yadav with the final blow and has 150 ODI wickets to his name. India win by 41 runs and break the 13-match winning streak of Sri Lanka. But don't take anything away from Dunith Wellalage! Boy, he was simply brilliant. With ball and then with the bat. Commendable effort from the Men in blue to play ODIS on three consecutive days and perform so well under pressure.

India won the toss and opted to bat first with the pitch expected to turn and slow down as the game progressed. Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave India a solid start yet again, adding 80 in quick time. It was a complete Hitman show as hammered his 51st ODI fifty and in the process got past 10,000 ODI runs. Rohit was just brilliant for his 53 off 48 balls, hitting 7 fours and 2 sixes.

Once Dasun Shanaka introduced the left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage, the complexion of the match completely turned upside down. Wellalage bowled a peach of a delivery to knock over Gill (19 off 25) in his very first ball and dented India with the wickets of Virat Kohli and Rohit in no time. KL Rahul (39 off 44) and Ishan Kishan (33 off 61) rebuilt the innings with a partnership of 63 for the 4th wicket with the former continuing from where left off against Pakistan.

Wellalage came back to haunt India again and got rid of Rahul and Hardik Pandya with the part-time spinner Charith Asalanka came out of the syllabus though the pitch was helping the spinners a lot. Wellalage (10-1-40-5) became the youngest Lankan bowler to bag a five-fer in ODIs. Asalanka’s spell of 9-1-18-4 derailed India’s lower middle order and India were reduced to 186/9 in 42.2 overs.

There was a rain interval as well but Mohammed Siraj blocked one end up with Axar Patel hitting some crucial runs on either side of the rain break. Patel (26 off 36) was the last man to depart in the final over bowled by Maheesh Theekshana as Sri Lanka wrapped India’s innings at 213. This was the first time in ODI history that India lost all 10 wickets to the spinners and Sri Lanka managed to knock over the opponents for the 14th straight time in this format

Chasing a challenging target of 214 on this tricky pitch, Sri Lanka lost their top three for just 25 runs in just 7.1 overs with Jaspirt Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj showing their top-class skills with the new balls. Sadeera Samarawickrama (17 off 31) and Charith Asalanka (22 off 35) tried to rebuild with a partnership of 43 runs for the 4th wicket. Kuldeep Yadav and KL Rahul worked in tandem and got rid of both these set batters in a span of the former’s consecutive overs before Ravindra Jadeja removed the Lankan skipper to reduce Sri Lanka 99/6 in 25.1 overs.

Dhananjaya de Silva (41 off 66) got company in the form of young talent Dunith Wellalage (42* off 46), who knocked over India with the ball earlier, continued his brilliant day with the bat as well pushing India throughout their partnership of 63 runs for the 7th wicket. Once Jaddu broke this stand with the wicket of the DDS in the 38th over, India came back really hard at the co-hosts. Hardik Pandya removed Theekshana, while Kuldeep knocked over the tail, cleaning Sri Lanka up for 172 in 41.3 overs.

Kuldeep finished with figures of 9.3-0-43-4, while Jadeja completed his night with 10-0-33-2. Bumrah grabbed a couple of wickets, while Siraj and Pandya got a wicket each. Axar Patel didn't do much with the ball as he couldn't extract much from the surface in his five overs.

India are in the finals and now it's between Pakistan and Sri Lanka for another spot. Their match on Thursday is a straight knockout. Bangladesh are eliminated as soon as Kuldeep Yadav gone through Pathirana!

Stay tuned for the presentations!
41.3 K Yadav to M Pathirana
W WICKET! Full length and angling in straight here, Pathirana looks to sweep and the ball goes through his legs to clatter the stumps. Too full to be sweeping and Kuldeep undoes the number 11 with his length. Kuldeep Yadav finishes things off in style as Pathirana is the last man to go for a duck. So, Sri Lanka have been bowled out for 172 in 41.3 overs. India come from behind to win this match by 41 runs.
41.2 K Yadav to M Pathirana
0 Good length that keeps low and turns in, Pathirana does well to keep it out.
Matheesha Pathirana is the last man in for Sri Lanka. Wellalage can only watch this contest from the other end until he gets the strike.
