That's it from the series opener between India and Afghanistan. The former dominated the show in Mohali and went 1-0 in the series. The second T20I is on Sunday (14 January) in Indore. Stay tuned with us for cricketing actions across the globe. For now, it's me, AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ninaad Dixit, who, alongside our scorers/analysts Yogesh Kumar and Raju Khariya, brought you all the live-action of this game. We will meet again. Until then, it's cheers!
Players Involved in Most Wins in Men's T20Is:

Rohit Sharma- 100*
Shoaib Malik- 86
Virat Kohli- 73
Mohammad Hafeez- 70
Mohammad Nabi- 70
Shivam Dube (POTM): "I think it was really cold. Yeah, but, I enjoyed playing at this ground.

I was batting at 4 after a long time. There was a bit of pressure on me, but I was clear in my mind that I had to play my game. From my style, I feel a bit of pressure on the first 2 to 3 balls, but after that, I think about the ball and don't think too much. I know I can hit big sixes in T20s, so I know I can get runs anyway.

Rohit Sharma said that I played really well and that we'll chat to improve my game in upcoming games. Today, I got the opportunity with the ball and executed what I had to."
Player of the Match: Shivam Dube
Rohit Sharma (India Captain): "It was extremely cold out there. Now I am okay. When the ball hits the tip of the finger it is sore but when it hit me first I wasn't able to feel my finger that's why I went in to find the hot bag. In the end it was good.

Lot of positives. We got a lot from this game especially with the ball. Wasn't the easiest of conditions but spinners bowled well and the seamers also did the job for us.

[Dismissal] These things happen. When it happens you feel little frustrated, you want to be out there and score runs for the team but everything will not go your way. Sometimes you've got to understand that but we won the game that was more important than that. Wanted Gill to carry on he played a little innings and got out. Shivam Dube, the way Jitesh batted. Tilak as well and Rinku is in good form as well.

We just want to try different things. Try and bowl our bowlers in different situations of the game like today Washi bowled the 19th over. We want to challenge ourselves in the areas we are slightly uncomfortable with and the bowlers are not used to that so we want to try and do that as well. We will try and do whatever is possible. Like I said at the toss, not at the cost of the game. We want to make sure we come out on top and play the game well and on the other side we will keep an eye on what else we can do. All in all today was a good day for us."
Smart Saver of the Match: Rahmanullah Gurbaz
Gamechanger of the Match: Shivam Dube
Ibrahim Zadran (Afghanistan Captain): "We were short 30-40 runs. We lost the toss but the boys fought really well till the end. We were trying to have a good start in the powerplay and then we lost wicket. One of us should play till 14-15 overs but lost wickets. New batter arrived at the crease and we went under pressure.

In the 2nd innings, there was a little bit dew. Gripping the ball was difficult for the bowlers. We were struggling with that but the boys fought really well.

We were lazy with the fielding today. We will try to improve our fielding and batting, bowling has no issue."
10:21 PM IST and Local Time: We are ready with post-match presentations...
Rohit Sharma becomes the first player in history to be part of 100 wins in Men's T20I.
Rinku Singh: "I have got the habit of batting at this number so I enjoy playing at this number and finishing games. I enjoyed the cold very much. I was getting hit by the ball while fielding but nobody noticed.

I talk to myself, sometimes the required rate is high and sometimes it is low. I try to keep calm and apply myself in the situation. I had a word with MS Dhoni in the previous IPL. He told me to keep calm and react to the bowl, I follow the same.

If I think then things go wrong. I don't think much, I see the ball and play it accordingly."
10:07 PM IST and Local Time: Shivam Dube finishes things off in style as India thrash Afghanistan by 6 wickets in the opening T20I of the three-match series and take an early lead

Earlier, India won the toss and opted to field first. The home team bowlers kept the scoring rate in check in the first half of the Afghanistan innings, despite the openers- Rahmanullah Gurbaz (23 off 28) and Ibrahim Zadran (25 off 22) getting to starts and adding 50 runs for the opening wicket in 8 overs. In trying to accelerate, Afghanistan lost three wickets in quick succession and were relying on 57/3 at the halfway mark.

Mohammad Nabi (42 off 27) and Azmatullah Omarzai (29 off 22) rebuilt with a 68-run 4th wicket partnership, with the former being aggressive. Mukesh Kumar dismissed both the set batters in the same over before Najibullah Zadran (19* off 9) and Karim Janat (9* off 5) hit a few good strokes to propel Afghanistan to 158/5 in 20 overs.

For India, Axar Patel and Mukesh grabbed two wickets each, while Shivam Dube took one wicket. Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar were quite expensive.

It was a disastrous start to India’s reply, with captain Rohit Sharma getting run out on the second ball of the second innings. Rohit and Shubman Gill were stranded at one end, with the former showing complete frustration with the young batting partner on the miscommunication.

Shubman Gill (23 off 12) played a few glorious strokes but failed to play a long innings. Tilak Varma (26 off 22) struggled in the initial phase but managed to add 44 runs for the 3rd wicket along with Shivam Dube. Once Varma departed in the 9th over, Jitesh Sharma (31 off 20) joined hands with Dube, adding another 40+ partnership.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman (4-1-21-2) came back and struck, dismissing Jitesh in the 14th over before Rinku Singh and Dube finished the job with another partnership excess of 40. Dube was brilliant for his second T20I fifty and remained unbeaten on 60 off 40 balls, while Rinku was not out at 16 off 9 balls.

India cruised home with 15 balls to spare and made Rohit Sharma's 100th T20I victory more memorable, though it wasn't personally for him with the bat.

Stay tuned for the post-match presentations!
