So, that's it from the coverage from the first ODI between India and Australia with the Men in Blue coming out on top and going 1-0 up in the 3-match series. Both teams head off to Indore and will face off against each other on Sunday in Indore. Do join us for the second ODI on Sunday and stick around to our network for all other cricketing actions across the globe and across formats.

For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Arijit Kundu and AkshayaKrishna Polya alongside scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodnight and CHEERS!
Well here's a surprise!! Ashwin did not get a chance to bat today. But no one can stop him from batting at the nets. He can be spotted hitting the nets right after the match. Dedication of Ash AnnaπŸ”₯
Mohammad Shami (POTM): "It depends on your captain and depends on the situation of the game on how to tackle this heat. With the new ball, you always love to bowl at least 4 overs on the trot despite the heat. Enjoyed the wicket of Mitchell Marsh, always like the outside edge carrying behind the wickets especially when you can control the swing.

It was very important to hit right areas with the ball, either at full pace or if you go slow. But keeping the right lengths was key. We have bowled together for a long period of time and we know what exactly to do. Always enjoying bowling with tandem with you co-fast bowler."

KL Rahul (India Captain): "It's not the first time and great to lead the side again. I have done it before.

The commitment and the intensity that we gave away in the afternoon. It was not like Colombo. But we had to stay committed out there fitness wise and we were sharp. Well, the bowlers had to bowl 10 overs and they did their job.

Good to see Shubman doing well and good to get the runs on the board. It was a difficult day with the gloves on. Lot of balls hit the hand and that's how it is as a keeper.

With Surya, it was all about playing good shots and rotate strikes and taking it deep. We played good cricketing shots. We kept it simple and got the job done in the end. I feel that was the key and glad we got the win in the end."
Game Changer of the Match: Mohammad Shami
Pat Cummins (Australia Captain): "As a person, I am happy that I am back. Good to be here in India. Few guys batted well, few guys bowled well. [on the injured players]They would not be ready by the second probably, but hopefully in the third. Maxy has just arrived in India.

Body feels good. Used the break to freshen up. Strengthened in. Yeah, Smith had his first hit in a while and Davey was brilliant.

Yeah, no doubt you put one eye on the big tournament. It's great to get everyone together. You want to put your rhythm in. We might rest and rotate some of the other guys and hope they can give their 100 percent."
9:58 PM IST | Time for the presentation ceremony...
DID YOU KNOW?

The last time when India won against Australia in an ODI at Mohali, it was by 5 runs in November 1996.
Suryakumar Yadav: "Absolutely, I mean that was what I was dreaming off when I started playing this format. I wanted to take my time, and then finish the innings. Could not do that today, unfortunately, but happy with the outcome.

I was even thinking, the color of the ball was same, the team is the same, what is happening to me? Then I went into my room, and tried to calm myself. I understood that I was rushing a bit.

I can't remember that haha [last time when Surya did not play a sweep shot straightaway]. I think that happened for the first time. I think it has come from Chandu Pandit's school of arts [on his straight drives]. Definitely, I loved it, and loved the way I batted at the top of the order.

Shubman, we know what he is doing for us at the top of the order, and Ruturaj, we know his class, definitely he is doing well.

Want to bat the same way. Try as much as deep you can bat, try and win games for India, finish games for India, all boxes ticked, thank you so much."
With this win, India are now the number one ranked team in all three formats. India have broken the Mohali jinx and have beaten Australia after 27 years on this venue in ODIs. India are the only team after South Africa to be ranked number 1 in all formats at the same time.
9:43 PM IST: Skipper KL Rahul finishes things off in style and leads from the front as India register a hard fought 5-wicket win over Australia in Mohali to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. With this win, India climbs to the Number 1 ranking in ODIS and now holds the Number 1 spot in all three formats. They paced the innings perfectly and held off a spirited challenge from Australia to win the game in the end.

Chasing 277 on a tricky surface, India got off to a blazing start courtesy of their makeshift openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill. The duo set up this chase perfectly putting up 142 for the first wicket. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored an invaluable 71 off 77 balls while Shubman Gill continued his good form scoring 74 off 63 balls. There was a middle order wobble with the openers and Iyer falling in quick succession. Ishan Kishan scored 18. But it was the skipper KL Rahul who played a responsible knock and scored an unbeaten 58* off 63 balls and a welcome return to form for Suryakumar Yadav as he scored 50 off 49 balls as India got to their target in 48.4 overs. 4 extras were given by the fielding side.

Australia fought hard with the ball and came back well after the opening partnership of 142 runs. Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/57 in 10 overs. A wicket apiece for skipper Pat Cummins and Sean Abbott. There was one run out as well. All in all, a decent outing with the ball for Australia.

Earlier in the game, Australia were put into bat first by KL Rahul. The visitors lost Mitchell Marsh early to Mohammed Shami. David Warner looked good for his 52 off 53 balls before he gave his wicket away. Steve Smith looked good for his 41 off 60 balls. Marnus Labuschagne scored 39 off 49 balls. Cameron Green got a start and scored 31 off 52 balls. Josh Inglis looked good for his 45 off 45 balls. Marcus Stoinis played a quick cameo with his 29 off 21 balls. Skipper Pat Cummins' 21* off 9 balls in the end took them to 276 in 50 overs. 8 extras were given by the fielding side.

For India, Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 5/51 in 10 overs. Jasprit Bumrah bowled well for his 1/43 in 10 overs. A wicket for Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as the two spinners bowled 20 overs and gave away 98 runs to pick up 2 wickets. Shardul Thakur had a day to forget as he gave away 78 runs in 10 overs. India had only 5 bowlers at their disposal and he had to bowl his full quota of overs.

So, India wins by 5 wickets with 8 balls to spare to go 1-0 up in the 3-match series. Stick around for the presentations.
48.4 Abbott to L Rahul
6 BIGGGIEEEE!! Kannur Lokesh Rahul, smacks it over the ropes and steers the Indian team to victory. Full-pitched delivery around the fourth stump and the batter picks it early and tonks it down the ground over the long off region for a six. The interim skipper got this in the arc and dispatched it out of the park. He came in a tricky situation and structured the innings brilliantly against a formidable opposition.
50 for Kannur Lokesh Rahul. 50 comes up in 62 balls. Calm under pressure and a captain's knock of a highest quality.
48.3 Abbott to L Rahul
4 FOUR!!! 14th half-century for KL Rahul. The boy from Kannur keeps his calm and shows the path to the Indian side, leading from the front. Full and around the off stump line. Rahul lofts it over the mid off region and the ball flows past towards the boundary ropes.
48.2 Abbott to L Rahul
0 Length and outside the off. Rahul cuts it towards backward point and finds the barrier.
48.1 Abbott to R Jadeja
1 Abbott from around the wicket, comes with a wider angle into the left hander. Jadeja works it with the angle towards right of mid on. Gets a single in a haste. A shy from the fielder there but no impact in the game.
