That's all from the inaugural match of the second season of ILT20, folks! It's time to wrap up our coverage as well. Gulf Giants started their campaign on a high note by defeating Sharjah Warriors by 31 runs.

For now, this is Deepak Prakash signing off along with scorer/analyst Chandan Kumar Singh. CHEERS!
Jamie Overton (Player of the Match): "I did well in the Big Bash, but couldn't play last year due to a stress fracture. It's great to be back with the Gulf Giants. Our strategy is to aim for the wicket and hit the top of the off stump to make it tough for the batters. I'm trying to pick the brain of CJ (Chris Jordan) and just sticking to our game plan."
Player of the Match: Jamie Overton
James Vince (Gulf Giants Captain): " I think it's a pretty all-rounded performance, lots of contributions. I think we can take confidence going forward.

Thought we played the conditions well. Obviously, Jamie Smith took the aggressive option early and put them under pressure, and I felt like halfway we were maybe 20 ahead of what was good on that wicket.

I thought although the Warriors got off to a decent start in the first six, we bowled pretty well. We bowled tight lines and the bowlers throughout did exactly what we spoke about doing. Probably the fielding is one area we can sharpen up a touch. It is a tough ground to catch out with the low lights, but yeah, we have some quality fielders on our side."

Tom Kohler-Cadmore (Sharjah Warriors Captain): "I think we were probably 20 short with bat and ball, so I feel obviously, there's a lot to learn from this wicket. I felt they just executed better than us tonight. So back to kind of training and making sure next time we play here, we're ready to go.

I think we couldn't learn a lot of how they bowled. They just smashed the middle of the pitch and made us kind of take it on square the wicket, which we found obviously difficult today. So, yeah, for me, that would be kind of the message going forward again just making sure we're adapting to conditions here.

I think when a team scores 200, you need to bat really well to be able to chase it. So I feel there are little areas that we can always improve and credit to the bowlers today for them, they kind of smashed their lengths, put us under pressure and we didn't have the answers."

Biggest six of the match: Jamie Smith
Time for the post-match presentation...
11:34 PM IST, 10:04 PM Local Time: Gulf Giants pummel Sharjah Warriors by 31 runs in the curtain-raiser of the ILT20 2024 to kickstart their campaign on a high note.

Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Gulf Giants got off to a rollicking start as Jamie Smith and James Vince scored at a brisk pace from the word go and set the tone for the high score. However, Theekshana clean-bowled Smith for 42 runs and broke the opening partnership of 61 runs.

Vince paired up with Jordan Cox and continued the carnage, adding 50+ runs for the second wicket but again Theekshana came back into the attack and removed Vince (45) and Shimron Hetmyer (0) in consecutive deliveries.

Cox contributed 32 runs off 22 balls, and Giants started losing wickets at regular intervals. However, Usman Khan's valuable 32 runs off 18 balls kept the run rate in check and helped Gulf Giants post a hefty 198/7 in 20 overs. Chris Jordan played a cameo of 11* runs off 6 balls.

Maheesh Theekshana shone with the ball for Warriors, claiming four wickets. Chris Woakes chipped in with a couple of wickets, while Daniel Sams celebrated a solitary wicket.

In pursuit of 198 runs, Sharjah Warriors got off to a solid start with Martin Guptill and Johnson Charles providing a robust foundation. The opening pair added 93 runs for the first wicket, with Guptill departing for 40 runs, falling prey to Overton.

Charles continued his partnership with Tom Kohler-Cadmore, maintaining a similar aggressive batting style. However, Kohler-Cadmore departed after a cameo of 12-ball 19 runs, falling prey to Dominic Drakes.

Charles reached his half-century but couldn't convert it into a substantial score, departing for 57 runs off 38 balls. Following his dismissal, Warriors started losing wickets at regular intervals and, ultimately, were restricted to 167/7 in 20 overs, falling 31 runs short of the target.

Jamie Overton bagged three wickets for Gulf Giants. Chris Jordan chipped in with a couple of wickets, while Richard Gleeson and Dominic Drakes celebrated a solitary wicket.

Stay tuned for the post-match presentation...
