Milestone
That marks the end of our coverage from the inaugural game of the PSL 09 between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars. For now, this is myself Saptak Sanyal, signing off on the behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash, who joined in the second innings and our scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer. Good night.
Shadab Khan (Islamabad United Captain)- "I think we just backed our strength. We have good batting depth and our batters can cope up with the pressure. We thought that pacers might get some disadvantage if dew comes, so we opted to bat first. It was an amazing performance from Agha. I am very pleased with the pacers. I was talking to Agha, I told that I can finish the game. I remember the game against Karachi last year so I told Agha that we should finish the game."
Shaheen Afridi (Lahore Qalandars): "I think we can give credit to Shadab and Salman for the way they batted. Not an easy task for the fast bowlers to bowl in the second innings because of the dew factor. The ball was coming nicely onto the bat and they played a good cricket. I think we missed Rashid because he is an impact bowler but we can't do anything as he is injured. In cricket, they say 'if you take catches, you win matches,' but unfortunately, we dropped two catches."
Shadab Khan (Player of the Match)- "When I was there in ILT20, I came from injury and I didn't perform. I worked with our bowling coach Carl and that helped. We had six debutants today and that was a pressure but things went well for us. After the world cup, I got injured and I am glad to contribute with the bat."
Player of the Match- Shadab Khan
Superpower of the Day- Shadab Khan
Energetic Batter of the Match- Agha Salman

Time for the post match presentations.
Agha Salman: "Yeah, I always wanted to play for them (Islamabad) and I think their style of play suits me. I am happy with the start, it's a good start. After the first innings, we knew it's a gettable score due to the dew factor. When I came to bat, Shadab was set and we planned to hit one boundary in an over and we succeeded in that. The environment in Islamabad's camp is very good, they will always support you even if you are not doing well."
00:11 IST and 23:41 Local Time | The Islamabad United skipper Shadab Khan finished the game in style with a maximum and his team got a comfortable victory by 8 wickets and with 10 balls remaining.

Opening the batting for the Lahore Qalandars, Sahibzada Farhan shone bright with the bat. He took on the United bowlers right from the start and scored 46 runs inside the powerplay. The other opener, Fakhar Zaman got out cheaply for 13 but Farhan went on to complete his half-century and got out for 57 facing 36 balls with 8 boundaries and a maximum. Rassie van der Dussen came in at number 3 and he ensured that the strike rotation remains smooth. He was accompanied by Abdullah Shafique and the duo mustered a 73 run partnership off 44 balls. Abdullah scored 28 runs with 3 maximums before getting out. David Wiese batted for 8 balls and added 14 runs. Rassie van der Dussen remained unbeaten on 71 facing 41 balls hitting 4 boundaries and 3 maximums.

Tymal Mills took a couple of wickets but gave 45 runs away. Shadab Khan and Naseem Shah took one wicket each.

Alex Hales and Colin Munro came out to chase the target. Hales started the chase with a few boundaries but Munro struggled to rotate the strike. Munro eventually got out for just 5 runs playing 11 balls. Skipper Shadab Khan then promoted himself up in the order. Alex Hales went on to hit boundaries and scored 36 runs off 28 balls hitting 5 boundaries and a maximum. But the game changer was the century stand between Shadab Khan and Agha Salman. The duo started to board the runs very quickly with the boundaries. Shadab brought his half-century in 32 balls while Salman got to the milestone in just 26 balls. At the end, their partnership was of 138 runs from 70 balls. Shadab Khan remained unbeaten on 74 off 41 balls hitting 6 boundaries and 5 maximums. Agha Salman scored an unbeaten 64 off 31 balls hitting 7 boundaries and 3 sixes.

Zaman Khan and Salman Fayyaz shared the two wickets that fell in the Islamabad innings for the Qalandars.

Stay tuned for post match presentations.
18.2 S Fayyaz to S Khan
6 SIX! That's it, Shadab Khan finishes off the things in style! Flighted delivery drifting on the stumps. Shadab presses forward and bludgeons it over the long-on for a maximum to finish the match. The long-on fielder is a mere spectator. Islamabad United win by 8 wickets, with 10 balls to spare, to start their tournament on a high note.
18.1 S Fayyaz to A Salman
1 Over the wicket. Flighted leg break on the stumps. Salman drills it down to long-on for one.
