10:43pm Local Time, 11:13pm IST: Sourya: Islamabad United have done it.
An immaculate bowling performance, especially in the powerplay, has helped them
defend what appeared to be a slightly below-par total on a ground considered a
bowler's graveyard. They have run out victors over Peshawar Zalmi by 29 runs.
Peshawar, chasing, 197 to win, were rocked back in
the very second ball, as talismanic captain Babar Azam was run out for a duck.
Thereafter, Naseem Shah (1/26) and his brother Hunain Shah (2/25), along with
Rumman Raees (2/28), used the swinging ball to devastating effect, with the
Zalmi reduced to 18/5 in the first powerplay.
A fine century partnership between Aamir Jamal (87 off 49), who played the innings of his life, and Paul Walter kept them in the game, but Shadab Khan (3/41), caused damage with his googlies later. In the end, it proved too big a mountain to climb for Babar’s wards.
Earlier, Shadab led his team with the willow as well, hitting a brilliant 80 off 51 to help his team to 196, with good contributions by Azam Khan, Jordan Cox and Salman Ali Agha backing him up after Saim Ayub had struck early to rock them back. Shadab was in fine fettle, hitting some gorgeous sixes and elegant fours to help his team to a total they will be able to defend later on.
