Milestone
Time to conclude our coverage from the 22nd game of the ongoing PSL 2024 between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United. This is myself, Saptak Sanyal signing off on the behalf of my co-commentators Anirudh Modi and Ayan Chatterjee(1st innings) and our scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer. Good night.
Shaheen Afridi (Lahore Qalandars Captain): "It's a team effort, and our cricket was good today. We could not be consistent through out the season but all of them have put in efforts. The way the new ball was moving, we felt 150-160 was enough and it was important to take early wickets. It was about bowling on length. It's been a champion team since 2 years, we never give up and always give our best for Qalandars Pride. All credit goes to the team, they have had a good scouting system to bring onboard new and exciting talent from all over Pakistan. He bowled well today and we hope we continue to see the same from him."
Rassie van der Dussen (Player of the Match)- "I have had a great two or three weeks and luckily we had a great outing tonight. The pitch was a bit on the bowler's side but the message was to take the game deep. The pitch went better and the boundary was shorter, so the run was about to come. The chat with every other batter was to be clear with you plan. Stick to your plan, whatever it is."
Player of the Match- Rassie van der Dussen
Superpower of the day: Zaman Khan
Energetic batter of the match: David Wiese
Moment of the Match: Colin Munro (catch to dismiss Fakhar Zaman)
Time for the post match presentation ceremony..
Shadab Khan (Islamabad United Captain)- "The pitch got soft when we came to bat and I think that's why our top order failed to score runs. We need to improve a lot of things. We are lacking to have a good partnership. I think we have to improve in our fielding. Colin Munro took a terrific catch and it is a good sign for us. He has batted well today too. Naseem has come back and he has performed. I think he will be more dangeous with the match progresses. We didn't misread the pitch. It got slightly better in the later stages of the game. We gave a good fightback even after losing 6 quick wickets."
Zaman Khan: "We tried to bowl at length as much as possible and followed the skipper's plan. Everyone came in form tonight, we hope to end the season strong. The shoulder is okay, we do not focus on injuries during the match. I have worked on my slower ones and dippers a lot and I'm grateful it came off today. We missed a few players during the season due to injuries, and we could not perform up to the mark during the season. Shaheen was just motivating me to win this match for us. We try to deliver our best for the fans and we hope they continue to support us."
23:25 IST and 22:55 Local Time | Even after the Islamabad United side's terrific fightback, the Lahore Qalandars are coming out with flying colours in this game and they have won it by a margin of 17 runs. This is their first win in this tournament!

Coming to bat first, Lahore Qalandars had a struggling start at the powerplay. They lost Fakhar Zaman(10) and Sahibzada Farhan(2) and then Shaheen Shah Afridi decided to promote himself up in the order and joined Rassie van der Dussen. Shaheen delivered with the bat and added 30 runs from 14 balls hitting 4 maximums to elevate the run rate. But Sikandar Raza and Ahsan Bhatti cheaply. But Rassie van der Dussen continued to hit boundaries against the loose balls. He scored 64 runs from 44 balls with 4 boundaries and an equal number of maximums. David Wiese played a quickfire cameo of 24 runs from 11 balls with 3 boundaries to help his team post 162 after the end of the 20th over.

Rumman Raees took a couple of wickets for 19 runs from his 3 overs. Naseem Shah, Hunain Shah, Faheem Ashraf, Imad Wasim and Shadab Khan took one wicket each for the Islamabad United.

Colin Munro started the run chase with a couple of boundaries against Shaheen Shah Afridi but the wickets started to tumble at the other end. Alex Hales got out for duck and the entire top order fell like a pack of cards. Agha Salman(4), Shadab Khan(7), Jordan Cox(7) and Imad Wasim(4) got out for single digit scores and Colin Munro added 15 runs from 16 balls. They got reduced for 36 for 5 after the powerplay. But Azam Khan gave some fightback and scored 29 runs from 19 balls with 3 boundaries and a couple of maximums. Naseem Shah and Faheem Ashraf took the chase forward with some boundaries. Naseem added crucial 27 runs before getting undone by a yorker from Afridi. Faheem Ashraf started to hit boundaries against Zaman Khan in the penultimate over when 34 was needed from the final 2 overs. He reduced the target to 18 from 8 with 2 boundaries and a maximum in the first three balls of the over. But a toe-crushing yorker from Zaman Khan dismissed Rumman Raees and the final wicket fell for the Islamabad United. Faheem Ashraf remained unbeaten on 41 from 31 deliveries and it was unfortunate him to not be on the winning side.

Zama Khan was the star of the bowling show picking up 4 wickets for 37 runs in his 3.5 overs. Shaheen Shah Afridi took 2 wickets for 32 runs. David Wiese, Jahandad Khan and Ahsan Bhatti took one wicket each.
